A Name is Just Babel

Developed alongside our sculpture Babel is Just a Name, this digital publication is a map of alternative language origin myths, archival images from our own and other’s libraries, textual explorations and word games. This publication requires the viewer to pan and scroll around a zoomed-in map following the foundational grid structure - mirroring the sculpture. While searching for new encounters under this controlled act of movement up-down-left-right, the viewers mouse leaves a chalk trace, marking their journeys past and present. There is the constant threat that, by moving through the publication, the content of it can be entirely ‘erased’ beneath the many mouse-journeys taken by many viewers over time.
